The magic of Indian festivals: how life is celebrated in different parts of the country

About India
Hello travellers!

Today we’ll be travelling to the heart of Indian holidays, where every day is a party and every corner of the country is a stage for an unforgettable show.

Ready? Let’s get started!

Holi

First up is Holi, the festival of colours where no one gets away dry. Imagine: you, your friends and a crowd of strangers competing to see who can colour the most. If your white t-shirts are still white, then you’re doing something wrong! And yes, don’t be surprised if you suddenly find yourself in the middle of a colourful battle — that’s part of the fun. And after all those multi-coloured battles, be sure to try the traditional sweet treats of guniya and tandan to replenish your energy.

Diwali

What about Diwali, the festival of lights? It’s a time when every street, house and even the neighbourhood dogs sparkle like a Christmas tree. Imagine: millions of lights, candles and bulbs illuminate the night sky. The rule of thumb is: the more lights, the better! And don’t forget the sweets — you can’t hide from them even around the darkest corner. Laddu, barfi, jalebi — your taste buds will be delighted!

Oniyam

Now let’s move to Kerala for Oniyam, the harvest festival. There are boat races, dances, and of course feasts to rival your grandmother’s birthday dinner. Important tip: don’t try to eat everything at once, leave room for dessert! Oh yes, and don’t miss the traditional Kathakali dances — a real theatre performance with bright costumes and make-up.

Durga Puja

And now for a bit of exoticism — Durga Puja in West Bengal. This is not just a festival, but an entire cultural event where the goddess Durga is worshipped. The city streets turn into an open-air museum with giant statues and art installations. And of course, get ready for music and dance performances that will take your breath away.

Ganesha Chaturthi

Ganesha Chaturthi is such a cool festival when everyone celebrates the birthday of god Ganesha. Imagine, he has the head of an elephant and the body of a man — how can you not love a guy like that? This holiday is especially adored in Maharashtra and other states of India. Ten days of absolute fun: people put statues of Ganesha in their homes and on the streets, decorate them in such a way that you can’t believe it! Songs, dances, prayers — everything is included. And at the end of this grandiose party, Visarjan takes place — when the beautiful statues are ceremoniously taken to the water and immersed in it. It’s like saying to Ganesha, ‘Thanks for everything, mate! See you next year!' Super fun and memorable for a long time!

Pushkar Fair

And finally, the Pushkarskaya Fair, where you can buy everything from a camel to a souvenir magnet. Imagine: thousands of camels, dressed up and decorated, take part in parades and competitions. You can also see a real Indian circus and even take part in a camel race! The main thing is not to mix them up in your luggage!

So friends, if you want to feel the magic of India and see how life is celebrated in every corner of the country, join us for another festival. We promise it will be unforgettable! After all, in India, a festival is not just an event, but a state of mind.
